As we head into 2023, it’s clear that bathroom remodeling trends are shifting towards personalization, luxury, and sustainability. We at Rudd Builders, a leading team of professional contractors in Salt Lake City, Utah, have compiled a list of five trends that we believe will dominate the coming year.

Firstly, minimalistic designs with clean lines and neutral tones are making a comeback. These designs, often characterized by frameless glass shower enclosures, sleek tiles, and uncluttered countertops, give bathrooms a sense of spaciousness and tranquility. They also allow for more flexibility with your budget, as you can save on decorative elements.

The second trend is the use of eco-friendly materials. With growing awareness about environmental sustainability, more homeowners are opting for materials like reclaimed wood, recycled glass tiles, and water-saving fixtures. Not only do these choices help preserve our planet, but they also create a unique and stylish aesthetic in your bathroom.

Thirdly, smart technology is becoming increasingly prevalent in bathroom designs. From heated floors to smart mirrors that can display the news or weather, these modern upgrades can enhance convenience and comfort. While the upfront cost of these installations can be quite high, they can also increase the value of your home significantly.

The fourth trend is the use of bold, statement pieces. A standalone, clawfoot bathtub or a vintage vanity can serve as a stunning centerpiece in your bathroom. While these pieces can be expensive, they can completely transform your space and give it a high-end feel.

Lastly, many homeowners are choosing to incorporate elements of nature into their bathrooms. This can be achieved through the use of earthy tones, natural stone tiles, or even indoor plants. Not only do these elements create a serene, spa-like atmosphere, but they can also improve indoor air quality.

At Rudd Builders, our professional contractors can guide you through every step of the bathroom remodeling process, from choosing the right design to selecting high-quality, durable materials. Whether you’re looking for a minor update or a complete overhaul, we can help you create a bathroom that reflects your style, meets your needs, and fits within your budget.

Keep in mind that bathroom remodels can vary widely in cost, depending on the scope of work, the materials used, and your geographical location. However, with smart planning and the right team of contractors, you can transform your bathroom into a beautiful and functional space that will serve you well for years to come.

When remodeling your home or just a room, deciding which flooring you will have is essential to complete the remodeling. Choosing the right tile style to fit your interior design is excellent. However, it would be best if you considered investing in a flooring material that will accommodate your home’s routine and upkeep for years to come. So, then which material lasts the longest in a home? That would be a difficult question to answer, as many factors take into account which material will last the longest, including your ability to maintain it. However, flooring made from hardwood, bamboo, ceramic, laminate, or vinyl is all considered durable materials.

5 Most Durable Materials

We know that flooring installation in your home can be pretty expensive and time-consuming, so it’s best to get it right the first time. This is why we have taken the liberty to list some of our recommendations for those seeking durable materials. Below are our top 5 recommended most durable flooring options to install for your flooring remodel.

Hardwood

Hardwood is one of the most common options for flooring in the United States. Coming in either planks or strips, the most common wood used in making hardwood floors includes oak, maple, and mahogany; but, some manufacturers also offer exotic wood varieties such as Brazilian Cherry and Tigerwood.

Many people pick hardwood flooring because it just looks great in any home and increases the value of your home by quite a bit. This material is very durable and can be easily refinished should the wood lose its luster. If you are considering installing hardwood in your home, ensure to place it in areas of the house with low moisture. This will guarantee that the material won’t shrink, swell, or split.

Bamboo

Bamboo is an eco-friendly alternative to hardwood flooring material while sharing the same look. It also comes in planks and strips with a variety of grain patterns. This material is easier to maintain as the refinishing process is quick and easy. Much like hardwood, this material is seldom suitable for high moister. Try to avoid dark colors as the colorants used to give the material color weakens its fibers.

Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are manufactured from a mixture of shale and clay that is then heat-treated in a kiln. These fun tiles come with different patterns, colors, and shapes, making them a desirable material to match your interior design.

This material is best in higher-traffic areas such as kitchens and hallways. They are a fantastic option for wet rooms like the bathroom or laundry room since they are naturally water-resistant.

Laminate

Laminate flooring is similar to hardwood. However, they are made of compressed wood or plywood covered by a thin veneer. Since they are still made of wood materials, laminate won’t be an excellent option for high-moisture and wet areas like bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements with leak problems.

Vinyl

For a flexible, resilient, and economical option, try vinyl. It is made from PVC plastic (polyvinyl chloride). Some vinyl comes with felt layers that make the tiles softer; others are cushioned with layers of foam and even textured to have a similar feeling to hardwood floors. They come in peel-and-stick backing that doesn’t require additional adhesives before installment. Vinyl is also by far the cheapest flooring material to maintain.

Once you have picked your desired material, you need an experienced contractor to make sure all your tiles are appropriately placed, leveled, and more. Our contractors at Rudd Builders are experts in home remodeling; call our offices today to get a free consultation and start building the home of your dreams.

Remodeling your bathroom is a popular trend that many homeowners neglect. It is unwise for them to ignore their extremely outdated bathrooms and upgrade them into a cohesive, comfortable, and practical room. It does not matter if you’re replacing faucets or the entire layout of the room. Transform your ugly bathroom into a soothing room that rivals the most luxurious spas. We have even compiled a list of reasons you should remodel your bathroom.

OUTDATED FIXTURES

You may have just purchased a home with a bathroom from the early 70s, or you may have started to notice white deposits from hard water all over your fixtures; remodeling may be something you need. Updating all your old fixtures is the best remodeling that you can do to your bathroom without a significant investment. Should you need a professional to make sure all your fixtures are installed correctly and efficiently, hire your local trusted contractors.

ADAPT TO NEW LIFESTYLE

It’s always important to adjust your house to any lifestyle changes. For example, you and your spouse are struggling for space for the bathroom sink, or maybe your children now need a bathtub instead of a small walk-in shower. You and your family’s needs will change as time passes; updating your bathroom will help you adapt to these changes a lot easier.

INCREASE VALUE

If you’re thinking about selling your property soon, consider updating its bathroom to give the property a big boost in resale value. There are many studies that show that most buyers will be more likely to opt into a property that does not need additional work.

PERSONAL ESCAPE

We spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Some studies show that most people spend over 30 minutes a day in the bathroom, that’s over 180 hours in a year, almost eight days. If you’re going to commit to using your precious time in a bathroom, you might as well make it a comfortable and relaxing experience. Design the space to make it feel like a luxurious spa and make those 30 minutes a day something to look forward to.

STORAGE SPACE

The most common reason why most people will remodel anything is that they feel they do not have enough storage space. Remodeling your bathroom can increase storage space by adding new linen closets, double vanity with extra cabinet space, and overall room expansion.

If you’re considering remodeling your bathroom, consult with one of our professional and trusted contractors today to start designing the bathroom of your dreams.

Is your bathroom outdated? Do you have a broken drain or a leaky faucet? You may want to consider remodeling your bathroom.

It is recommended that you remodel your bathroom every four to five years. Especially if you have things wrong with your amenities.

Design

Make sure you plan out your design and get a layout of how you want everything done before you start working on the project. We know you will be excited to have a nice new bathroom set up, but before you start thinking about the aesthetics, make sure you have the foundation mapped out. Do not forget why you were remodeling in the first place, (i.e. your bathroom is outdated, or needs repairs) that is what you will want to stick by through the entire project. If you do not have a clear vision going in, you might not end up with the results you wanted by the end of it. You want to consider proper spacing for the most optimal comfort.

Upgrade

Since we spend a lot of time in the bathroom on a daily basis, wear and tear are inevitable. As such, you will want to consider using more expensive materials for your bathroom remodel. Although it will be more of an expense up front, it will save you the hassle and cost in the future if you have to frequently replace certain things such as wallpaper or wooden flooring.

Budget

Also, budget out your plans! Make sure you are honest with yourself about how much you realistically have to spend on this project, then, budget out an additional ten to fifteen percent more in case of any unexpected issues you may run into. Your remodel should cost no more than five to ten percent of your total home value. Something to keep in mind too, is that bathrooms are huge selling points on homes to buyers. Even if you aren’t thinking about selling your home at the moment, you never know what will happen down the line, and your bathroom is one of the places you should definitely never cut corners.

Ventilation Matters

One thing you will want to consider when remodeling your bathroom is to check the exhaust fan. Without proper ventilation, moisture gets trapped up there and over time mold will grow. Even if you recently replaced the exhaust fan, make sure to vacuum it out after recent renovations before you turn it on in case there is remaining debris inside.
